Dear Friend,
We’re excited to announce that Women Cross DMZ is hiring a part-time Communications Consultant! We’re looking for a savvy communications strategist who is passionate about Korea peace issues and wants to help change public opinion in support of ending the Korean War. The deadline to apply is April 5. For more details, click here.
In other news, thanks to everyone who joined our Korea Peace Advocacy Week, which wrapped up last week! We held many productive meetings with members of Congress about H.R.1369, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act. We’ve already gotten two new co-sponsors, Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI-1) and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY-11), after our meetings and we’re still pushing for more! For a quick recap, click here.
Be sure to join the next Korea Peace Now! Grassroots Network monthly meeting on Thursday, April 11, at 8pm ET/5pm PT. We’ll hear an analysis on the results of South Korea’s parliamentary election from award-winning journalist Kihye Jeon Hong, President of South Korean online news outlet Pressian, followed by lessons learned from this year’s Korea Peace Advocacy Week. Register here.
Also, be sure to register for the Feminist Peace Summit, which will be held May 1-3, in Denver, Colorado. Women Cross DMZ is organizing the conference with MADRE and Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, in partnership with the Inclusive Global Leadership Initiative at the University of Denver. This free gathering will bring together leading activists, academics, policymakers, philanthropists, and others to discuss how we can transform U.S. foreign policies away from endless war and impunity by advancing feminist, anti-militarist, and internationalist values.
Our work for Korea peace is directly connected to our struggles against U.S. militarism at home. Along those lines, Women Cross DMZ is co-hosting a panel discussion, “Demilitarizing Hawaiʻi and the Pacific for Planetary Survival,” on Saturday, April 6, in Honolulu, with several distinguished scholar-activists on the need to reduce the U.S. military presence in Hawaiʻi in order to address the climate crisis and repair decades of harm caused by U.S. militarization. This free event will take place at Ka Waiwai Ma Mōʻiliʻili (1110 University Avenue, Honolulu, HI) on April 6 from 6-8pm. Click here to RSVP.
Finally, if you’re in New York City, be sure to join the Korean American March for Peace in Korea on Saturday, April 27. Korean Americans and all peace-loving people are invited to join this march to demand that the US and North Korea sign a peace agreement to end the Korean War and the cessation of US-South Korean joint war drills. Meet at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza at 2pm on April 27. Click here for more info.
We hope to see you at one of these upcoming events.
In peace,
Christine Ahn
