What are “missile defense systems” and how do they impact the security of the people of Kaua‘i and Korea? How are these struggles connected? How are women on the front lines resisting the militarization of their communities?
Aunty Puanani Rogers, a Kaua‘i-based Kanaka Maoli activist, will speak about struggles on Kaua‘i to end the Aegis Missile Defense and ongoing U.S. occupation of Hawai‘i.
Christine Ahn, Honolulu-based international coordinator of Women Cross DMZ, will speak about organizing underway to challenge the militarization and threat of nuclear war on the Korean peninsula, including resisting the deployment of THAAD.
We will also screen the trailer, “Crossings,” a forthcoming documentary about the historic women’s peace walk across the Korean De-Militarized Zone in 2015. Funds for this event will go to support WVWS’ delegation to the International Women’s Network Against Militarism gathering in Okinawa this summer.
